Not sure about a blog? Watch this one hour video presentation entitled How Blogs Bring Prospects courtesy of Mike Klingler as the Renegade Professional.
Want a "social blog" as a base for your social marketing - with the least hassle? Just use "Blogger" for free [a service of Google]. Want help to understand how the social blog can help with business? Get training from The 30 Day Marketer.
Want a "niche blog" as a base for your niche home business? Or Looking for a blog with a totally customized design with more powerful features? Most importantly, want a blog with your own URL? You need a WordPress blog, with your own domain name, hosted on your own server (such as Go-Daddy or HostGator). We do not mean WordPress.com (where you will NOT have your own domain and your blog will be subject to possible cancellation); we mean WordPress.org!
WordPress.org is free, open-source software that needs to be loaded on your server. The only cost would be to buy a special "theme" (design layout), but don't worry- there are plenty of great free themes that you can also customize. Learning to get started with WordPress.org can be challenging. I have several suggestions-
- Work with your hosting service. Many of them have click-by-click simple instructions for installing WordPress on your site. It worked for me at GoDaddy.com.
- Even so, getting the blog set up and customized, picking the right "plug-ins" and other tasks are also challenging. You can certainly utilize the help forums, but If desired, it can be a lot simpler to get step-by-step training. For that, I recommend that you join The Renegade Professional ($50/month) to get access to the 22+ step-by-step tutorials on using WordPress.org. You can cancel the Renegade Professional at any time.
- If you just want to chat about the whole issue of setting up your blog, you can contact us for a free consultation.
Already have a blog, but want to build more traffic and give it the best possible professional spin? I recommend this workbook by Darren Rowse: 31 Days to Build a Better Blog. Darren is one of the world's best known professional bloggers. He maintains several blogs including Digital Photography School and TwiTip.
When Darren asked on Twitter whether there were any bloggers interested in a month of concentrated teaching and practical exercises on improving blogs he was inundated with expressions of interest. Over 13,000 bloggers signed up - the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge was born. The reality is that all bloggers want to improve their blogs - but many never quite get around to it. Most bloggers get to a point where they want to get serious and put time aside to work on their blog. That's what this workbook challenge is about. The idea is simple. By the end of this challenge you'll have learned 31 aspects of blogging and put them into practice. It is designed not only to fill your head with knowledge ABOUT blogging but also give you some concrete things to do to actually DO something with the knowledge. You can adjust the concept from 31 days to 31 weeks if you like.
